AP 2D Design Portfolio

My inquiry explores how having a heart condition and surgery as a child shaped my journey and relationship with my health. When I was 10 l experienced Supra-ventricular tachycardia (SVT), my heart rate unexpectedly jumped to 240 BPM. For 2 years I was engaged in a game of negative tests and recurring SVT, until, an extra electrical pathway in my heart was found. Even at the hesitation of some, I underwent a cardiac ablation. Since then I've been on a journey, with many realizations, striving to create a balanced relationship with my health, in both mind and body.

Photo 1 is representative of the Memory of my 1st SVT. 2 is the "Game" of negative tests. After nothing was continuously found, the words in photo 3 were instilled in me. In photo 4 I represent how my first appointment with a new doctor went and the relief I felt when he believed me. In that appointment he asked what type of rhythm I felt through tapping his pen. Right before the surgery they conducted one last test in which I "Lit up like a Christmas tree", represented in photo 5. The next photo 6, represents the surgery, a cardiac ablation, that is done through inserting catheters through major arteries to go up to the heart. Even though the issue was now resolved, being dismissed by so many doctors and the having to undergo surgery instilled anxiety in me even when feeling a small heart flutter, this is represented in photo 7. Through this experience I came to the conclusion that life can change in the blink of eye, just like a school hallway in between class, photo 8. Along the lines of realizations there was also this one of life being short, photo 12. In photo 13 I show how I use nutrients to care for my body. Photo 14 shows the mind body connection, represented by the head, heart, and stomach as they all interact with each other importantly. Photo 15 is about finding the balance with my health, represented by a circular flow of energy in colors I think represent balance, health, and peace.
My portfolio was awarded a 5.
